Transitions are hard. I know this not only from the objective vantage point of coaching a myriad of people through various career/life changes, but also subjectively from my own recent career/life transition.
While we all expect to struggle through transitions that are thrust upon us – those that are caused by unexpected external events like shifts in the economy, natural disasters, illness or termination, we like to think that the ones that are self-imposed – those resulting from well thought out, personal decisions — would be easy.
